The quantum world and the business world

The quantum world is the business world, it is us, everything around us and inside us; it is where everything is born from and fades back into.

This very process, this cycle of birth and death, changes the quantum world. It can be the birth of a thought and its death/rejection a millisecond later, or it may be the birth of an age and its death through evolution thousands of years later.

We have some control, or feel we have, with some of these cycles. What we embrace and pay attention to creates and grows. This affects more than our own future; it can create an effect on others, whether they are aware of it or not. Perhaps this is most obvious in the business world. Our intentions for a desired future are usually focussed and filled with determination as we strive for success, whether that is for promotion, more money or to create change in the world. The fact that many of us are willing, consciously or not, to help others build their business vision is apparent in a world run by major corporations and successful brands. We applaud success and help grow it like a snowball gathering snowflakes that can eventually create an avalanche of fulfilment for its creators.

I walk past several coffee shops each morning and am fairly loyal to one in particular. But when I saw a huge queue outside another café, I noted to myself that this must be good and maybe I should try it. Those queuing are behaving in a quantum way; Nobel prize winning physicist Peter Higgs explains how quantum particles gain mass by relating to them as a celebrity entering a room full of people who cluster around to be close and ‘suddenly the celebrity has mass’. We are attracted to success but who decides what success really is?

Personally, I am not impressed by the state of our current business world, and would go as far as to say I find it quite frightening. The food in the USA is controlled by a handful of suppliers who edge out any competitors; there are some excellent documentaries on this, and Biden is trying to address it. There is no need to claim ignorance; the information is available thanks to brave journalists. The large pharmaceutical companies have immense control and even positions in Congress. Our options on computers, delivery of goods, publishing and so on are reduced to less than a handful in some cases because we are drawn to success and those businesses strive for it second by second.

We are all part of the quantum world with its ebb and flow, we create these businesses by the attention we pay to them. What if we paid as much attention to our own business, if we really minded our own business and gave it the awareness, focus and interest we gave to others’? We could grow a different business world, one of our own. I believe it is time to take the leap.
